What You Can Expect

Enjoy a full day of sightseeing in the Italian capital with this private 9-hour shore excursion, including round-trip transportation from the Civitavecchia port.

Travel with your private driver and guide from the port into Rome – a trip of about 90 minutes. Start with a visit to one of Italy's most famous monuments – the Colosseum. Spend 20 minutes walking around the huge amphitheater, seeing the Arch of Constantine and Arch of Titus (entry to Colosseum at own expense).

Continue on to the Circus Maximus, to learn about the chariot races that were once held there. See what remains of the once huge stadium, and admire the Palatine Hill in the distance.

Journey toward the heart of modern Rome via the 'Road of Temples,' enjoying views of the Palatine Hill, Piazza Venezia and the enormous monument to Vittorio Emmanuele II, Italy's first king. Stop for a grand view overlooking the Roman Forum, the former epicenter of a massive empire.

Visit the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon before taking a break for lunch (own expense). Ask your guide for recommendations, or choose from the many options in the area.

Choose from your after-lunch options to either travel on the famous and historic Appian Way to see ancient Roman catacombs; or to see some of the less-visited parts of central Rome, such as the Campo de' Fiori and the highest viewpoint in the city.

Drive past St Peter's Square for one last photo-op before you're returned to the port at the end of the day.

We took a tour of Rome on May 1st. This happened to be Italy's Labor Day, so the Vatican and the museums were closed. My group of six was picked up from our cruise ship and traveled to Rome in a new 8 passenger van. Our tour guide John was amazing! He first took us to the Catacombs, then the Coliseum, Circus Maximus, Trevi Fountain, Appian Way, then drove by the Pantheon, and St. Peter's Square. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and spoke fluent English. A totally amazing tour of the city!! John drove us back to our cruise ship and arrived with 30 minutes to spare. If you're visiting Rome from a cruise ship, I highly recommend this tour of Rome!!

Worth every cent!! Lucca our tour guide was outstanding! His historical insight of the city made it so memorable. In addition, he knew exactly how to maximize our tour experience by bypassing lines and crowded areas. He was always able to find parking places (no small task), great views and restrooms.

Luca was fantastic and knowledgeable, an excellent tour. it was smooth and all was amazing. Even though we had been to Rome before, we chose this tour because we wanted a lot of basic information. We felt like all of us were happy with the history and explanations - even my son who takes history of Rome in college.
