Your excursion begins with hotel pickup in Reykjavik. Ensure you leave your hotel well equipped with sun cream, warm clothing and practical hiking boots. During the scenic drive to Snæfellsjökull, you’ll travel through the Snaefellsness peninsula, a magical landscape comprised of waterfalls, mountains and dramatic glaciers.
On arrival at the starting point of your challenging hike, gaze up at the frozen summit of the Snæfellsjökull glacier, a natural landmark that soars to a height of 750m (2,500ft). Once you reach the glacier, you’ll be attached to a rope and begin your ascent.
Your expert instructor will lead you over crevasses and icy slopes, ensuring you feel safe and secure at all times. The pace of the hike will be set depending on the ability of the group, and therefore can take between three and five hours.
At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Snaefellsness peninsula and Iceland’s unique natural tableau. On a particularly clear day, Greenland can also be seen.
After drinking in the view and recovering your energy with food (not included), make your descent and relax during the journey back to your Reykjavik hotel.
