Overview

Wander through the jaw-dropping Gardens of Versailles on a guided day trip from Paris. Ride the train to the blue-blooded suburb of Versailles and learn about the history and legends of the UNESCO-listed gardens while strolling among elaborate geometric paths, fountains, flower beds, orchards and hedge mazes. See the opulent exterior of the Palace of Versailles, which you can visit independently after your tour if you like.
  • A guided tour of the gardens of Versailles, departing from Paris
  • Stroll around one of Europe’s most magnificent gardens
  • Learn about the fascinating historical events that took place here
  • Photograph the picture-perfect lakes, flower beds and statues
  • Transportation by train is included
Commissioned by King Louis XIV in 1661, the Gardens of Versailles are among the most elaborate in the world and have been meticulously perfected and maintained for centuries. To get to Versailles, meet your guide in central Paris in the morning and enjoy a short train ride to the royal suburb.

Spanning nearly 2,000 acres (809 hectares), the gardens are easy to get lost in and filled with tucked-away treasures. Follow your guide through Baroque-style hedge mazes, winding pathways and orchard lanes to experience the gardens’ most impressive and intriguing features.

Learn about the decades-long design process that transformed sprawling woods and marshland into a manicured wonderland fit for royalty. Discover Marie Antoinette’s favorite sections and hear stories from the downfall of the monarchy during the French Revolution.

At the end of your tour, ride the train back to Paris with your guide. Alternatively, you can purchase a ticket for the Palace of Versailles and stay on to explore the outrageously opulent Hall of Mirrors and royal apartments independently.

Please note: On Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from March to October (plus select other dates) musical garden and fountain shows take place in the afternoons. These are not included in the tour.

The guide was very very informative and easy to understand. As for the gardens, I was a little let down. Grass was dry and not all green. Saw more weeds in that garden than in my yard.
