  • Visit Monet’s home and studio on your own to discover his collections

  • Choose a morning or afternoon tour
Claude Monet, the father of the Impressionist art movement of the late 1800s, lived and worked just 1.5 hours outside of Paris in Giverny, where he spent his days indulging in his love of botany and gardening. On this half-day tour from Paris, you’ll visit his charming home, which sits on a large property made up of colorful gardens and, of course, the legendary lily pond.

Your tour starts with departure by coach in either the morning or afternoon (depending on option selected when booking) from the city center. When you arrive at Giverny, take a walk with your guide through the gardens in front of the house. Depending on the time of year, you’ll see an impressive array of vibrant blooms, as well as orchards. Then stroll over to the pond, dotted with the water lilies that so inspired Monet. Walk across the Japanese bridge made famous by his paintings, and enjoy the tranquil environment created by weeping willows and bamboo trees.

Then head to the house, where your guide will leave you to explore on your own. Donated by Monet’s son to the French Academy of Fine Arts in the ‘60s, the home was restored to its interior from the time when Monet lived there. As you walk through the kitchen, bedrooms, and other spaces, you’ll see some of the art that he collected, including Japanese garden prints. Then head to his studio and check out the large souvenir shop, where you can purchase reproductions of his paintings, pottery, and flower seeds.

Your tour ends with the drive back to Paris.

our guide was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Monet’s garden is beautiful and well worth the trip. We would highly recommend allowing more time. We took so many pictures at the gardens that we did not have enough time to tour the adorable village surrounding Monet’s home.

This is for a review for a tour done on September 19th, 2018. Great way to spend a half-day doing some sight-seeing. This tour was through ParisCityVision tours. You check in and board a bus that takes you directly to Giverny. A tour guide is assigned to the group and gives great history of Money from childhood to death which was very helpful and gives you a better appreciation when you tour the gardens and Monet's home. The ride is about 1.5 hours, you get about 1.5 hours to walk around the garden and house, if you time it right also enough time to shop at the gift shop, board the bus and another 1.5 hours back to Paris.. We also did the AM tour which was great because there was less crowds. All in all, we left by 8am, arrived at Giverny by 945am, toured until 11:15 AM and was back in Paris before 1pm. This tour won't give you enough time to grab a meal in Giverny. If you are hoping for a longer time at Giverny, book a day-long tour.

Overall the trip was OK but expensive for the value received. We enjoyed the bus trip and visit, but our guide Rosanne was terrible. She talked too fast, was difficult to understand, and the few instructions she gave were hard to interpret! We also recommend that the educational talk be held off till the bus is out of Paris so the viewing distractions are at a minimum.

The bus ride through Paris, there and back, was quite informative. But once we got to Giverny, it was just a run through the gardens and house which were packed with other tourists. It was way too crowded to see much or to capture the mood of the place. We were very disappointed.

Great way to see this quickly. You really don't need more than a few hours there

One of the best tours I've ever been on! From start to finish the tour guide was awesome. She was very knowledgeable and made the bus ride terrific.

The gardens and the house are small so there isn't much that you need a guide for -- although the guide for my group did provide a lot of historical background. Note that the guide does not go into the house with the group.

The big negative for this tour is that I did it on a Sunday in July and the site was so crowded that it was unbearable -- I didn't go into the house. It would likely be much more enjoyable to do on a Wednesday in May or October.

Having said all of the above, the tour agency was very efficient.

The guide was a little strict, unnecessarily so. But the gardens are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous and well worth the trip, commitment of time and the money. The bus left right on time, the coach was comfortable, the driver was good. Simple enough to follow the tour guides minor directions.

This was a relaxing ride into the countryside with a very good guide. The gardens at Monet's home were just beautiful. Could have had a little more time in Giverny overall.
