Half-Day Mountain Bike Tour to Juella from Tilcara

Mountain Bike to Juella

Enjoy convenient 8 am pickup at your accommodation in Tilcara, then head out into the rugged surrounding landscape. At the jumping-off point for your biking adventure, listen to a short safety talk and an orientation to the area. Get fitted for a bike and helmet, then saddle up and pedal off into the countryside. The total distance covered is approximately 12 miles (20km); no cycling experience is necessary. 

Bike down a gravel path, surrounded by multicolored hills, for the next 4 hours. Learn about how erosion has worn away the sediment and revealed layers of multicolored rock over millions of years. Learn to to distinguish the unique landscapes that makes up the Province of Jujuy and keep an eye out for local wildlife like eagles, condors, foxes and llamas. 

Halfway through your trip, stop for a short hike to the Pucara of Juella, an archaeological site filled with ruins and fossils from the pre-Incan period. This area was occupied by the indigenous people of the Cerro Amarillo a thousand years ago. Bring your camera for fantastic views from the lip of the Quebrada de Juella (Juella’s Gorge).

Return to Tilcara the way your came, via dirt path and comfortable tour vehicle. You'll be dropped off back at your Tilcara hotel at around 1pm.
