Your day in León begins with pickup at your hotel in Managua. In a well-equipped tour vehicle, travel to the northwestern city, making your first stop at the ruins of León Viejo on the way.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains the foundations of original houses and some partially restored original buildings. Originally settled in the early 1500s, the city once had a native population of tens of thousands, and was completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1610. With your tour guide, view the partially restored church and the statue of Hernandez de Cordoba, the explorer who founded the town, built over his own remains.
Continue to León proper, where you will tour the bustling neighborhoods full of colorful colonial architecture and local residents going about their daily lives. Pass museums, art galleries and churches such as La Merced and La Recoleccion. Tour the Metropolitan Cathedral, visit the Myths and Legends Museum, the Ortiz Guardian Foundation and the Ruben Dario Museum.
At the conclusion of your 7-hour tour, return to Managua for drop-off.
