Italy’s Liguria is known for its beauty. While its postcard-worthy pebble shores are a draw, it’s the region’s laidback seaside towns that really hold the charm. Luckily for you, this 2-night tour takes in several of the dwellings that pepper the Ligurian coast.

From Florence, travel west to visit the fishing villages of the UNESCO-listed Cinque Terre. Enjoy free time to explore Manarola, Riomaggiore and Monterosso, and wander their unspoiled streets, which curve around sherbet-hued houses. Travel between the coastal villages by train and boat with a tour leader, and enjoy a 3-course lunch, too. Later, bid your tour leader goodbye at La Spezia, and take the train to Santa Margherita where your hotel for the following two nights awaits.

The next day, make use of a round-trip ferry ticket to visit the super-yacht-resort of Portofino on your own. Then, enjoy a final morning of free time in Santa Margherita before your return to Florence. Read the Itinerary for full details.

Itinerary

Day 1: Florence – Cinque Terre – Santa Margherita (L)
Depart from central Florence by coach and settle in for a 2.5-hour journey toward the remote Ligurian coast. Arrive in candy-colored Manarola, a tiny but breathtakingly romantic harbor village and one of the five Cinque Terre hamlets.

Perched precariously between the hills and the sea, the isolated setting of these settlements has helped them retain a traditional appearance and charm that may otherwise have been lost. Spend free time exploring Manarola, then meet with your tour leader to take a train the next village of Riomaggiore, where thanks to its inaccessibility, you can still observe an unspoiled and older way of life.

Proceed by boat to Monterosso (dependent on weather). During the journey, admire the views of tiny coves and rocky outcrops, which are best seen from the water. Upon arrival, enjoy time at your leisure to swim in the beautiful blue waters or to walk around the narrow stone walkways. Then, sit down for a 3-course Ligurian lunch that may include typical local dishes such as pasta with pesto.

In the afternoon, stop in La Spezia and catch a local train back to Santa Margherita, where you will check in to your 3- or 4-star hotel (dependent on availability).

Overnight: 3-star hotel or 4-star Hotel Lido Palace or similar

Day 2: Santa Margherita – Portofino – Santa Margherita
Use a round-trip ferry ticket to visit Portofino independently. Ferries run regularly throughout the day and into the early evening, departing from the pier in Santa Margherita.

Once a hotspot for the rich and famous, Portofino remains a glamorous resort, with an immaculate harbor filled with bobbing fishing boats and luxury yachts. Wander around its pretty main streets and elegant piazzas, which are dotted with art galleries, restaurants, cafes and designer boutiques. Return to Santa Margherita at your leisure.

Overnight: 3-star hotel or 4-star Hotel Lido Palace or similar

Day 3: Santa Margherita – Florence
After a morning spent at your leisure in Santa Margherita, depart for La Spezia by train. In La Spezia, hop on board a comfortable coach for the return journey to Florence. Your tour concludes in central Florence in the evening.

Please note: The order of the itinerary as described above may be subject to change on the day of your tour. In the event of unfavorable weather conditions, the boat service between Riomaggiore and Monterosso will be suspended and travel with be via train, coach or minivan.

After the reviews I was nervous about this tour but it was great. The tour guide met you opposite Florence station easy to find had all your vouchers explained it all. Tacked onto day cinque Terre tour and then went your own way after collecting suitcase at station which stayed on the bus. Platform easy to find hotel easy they give you directions and hotel in st. Margarita a lovely little seaside town was perfect. Recommend the portofino
Ferry which they give you a voucher for, this is truly a beautiful part of Italy. Back the next day by train simple again.
We were nervous about meeting our Guide and made a couple of calls to emergency number. They assured us they would be their with a sign and the guide was. Then back to Florence by bus. It was a fabulous 2 nights highly recommended.

This Tour is excellent, however, in the description of the guided tour it is not stated that the tour guide ends at approx. 4pm on day one1 of the 3 day .2 night tour.
The person or couple are then own their own , without guide, to catch the correct train From La Spezia to Santa Margherita, transport from Santa Margherita station to their Hotel and check in.
There is also no guide provided to catch the ferry to Portofino the next day.
The following day requires transport back to Santa Margherita station to catch the correct regional train back to La Spezia
All of the are above are included with pre paid vouchers to be produced , except transport to and from hotel Taxi
Be aware, this is NOT a 3 day guided tour !
It should be noted that the included Hotel at Santa Margherita was excellent and better than expected
The period that is most vulnerable and non defined is the meet-up on day 3 with another tour , outside La Spezia rail station to join that tour for the bus trip back to Florence.
If the regional train is delayed as mine was for 1 hour on route will the meet up tour have left already,? Who is the meet up tour guide? In this locale there are many tour guides and busses
I phoned the emergency number provided to establish if the meet up tour was still in La Spezia, and got a tour guide identification
purple umbrella and name and waited on my phone while head office phoned the guide to establish her exact position.
Without doing this it would be near impossible to meet up with the day 3 guide and then have to face the prospect of finding and paying for my own trip back to Florence.
A great itinerary , apart from these communication gap that needs improving.

Great tour! It is basically a day tour that you don't return to flown e on, but make your own way to Santa margarita on the train - which can be a little intimidating at first to find out what train, platform etc as no one speaks much English! Once arrived, you are also on your own, but worth it!!
