What You Can Expect

Private Tour: 'Outlander' TV Locations Day Trip from Edinburgh

See Geillis Duncan's home in the village of Culross

Your private Outlander adventure begins with morning pickup from your central Edinburgh hotel. Meet your expert guide and set off to explore Scotland’s wild Highlands and the filming locations for the popular Starz fantasy series. Along the way, delve into the details of the show, adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s series about a World War II nurse who hops back in time to 1740s Scotland during the Jacobite rising.

Your first stop is the charming village of Falkland nestled in the Lomond Hills. Stroll through the town that served as the setting of 1947 Inverness to see the church that represented Danleigh Parish Church and stop for a photo outside of Campbells Café. Following the guided tour, take some time to independently explore the town – where the young Mary Queen of Scots spent her happiest childhood days! – and grab some lunch (own expense).

After lunch, continue to the medieval Doune Castle – Outlander’s fictional Castle Leoch. Hear about the area's gruesome 18th-century battles that took place during the Jacobite rising, both fictional renditions and real-life warfare. Snap some photos of the castle from the outside or take an optional interior tour (own expense).

Next head to Culross (aka Cranesmuir), where characters Geillis and Arthur Duncan live, and on to Jamie Fraser’s home in Lallybroch. Bonus! Your private tour grants exclusive access to the closed filming location in Lallybroch.

As you travel, enjoy little-known stories about the show’s production. Test yourself with entertaining trivia about clans, warfare, Scottish history and signature Outlander characters!

Your 9-hour tour concludes with an early evening return to your Edinburgh hotel.

Worth every cent! Would do it again in a heartbeat. Most amazing tour guide funny, informative and took us to places we never could have found on our own. Take the whole family...it will be the highlight of our vacation.

We went on a brilliant bespoke Outlander adventure. Tony our guide was ever helpful, charming and knowledgeable about Outlander and more scottish history. We stopped at delightful Outlander locations but also beautifully preserved traditional scottish villages, which otherwise wouldn't have made it onto the tourist map.
Thanks Tony superb trip.

Tony was amazing. He was very knowledgeable on all things Outlander and took us to several of the most iconic sights. He was fun to hangout with. Never a dull moment. He even brought whiskey to toast and warm us up. This was one of the most memorable trips we have ever been on. Highly recommend Tony

This was a fabulous day trip we took August 18. The kilt-wearing Tony gave us a well-informed experience. He is truly a Scotsman that loves his country and it shows in his knowledge of the 'Outlander' series and the facts he presented about the show and the locations where it is filmed. It was a glorious day! Tony exposed us to the real jewels of Scotland - and we will never be the same! You won't be disappointed taking a tour with Tony. Thanks again for a wonderful, fun, and informative experience. Cheers! Sissy, Ronda and Carlos

The tour was outstanding. Gerry our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the show and exactly what happened at each site, producing pictures and pointing out exactly where everything happened. But more importantly, the beautiful places we saw in the Scottish countryside could not be equaled and Gerry gave us the history and character of these great little towns. This is a day that cannot be missed.

This Outlander Tour was by far the finest tour experience I have ever done. Gerald was professional, experienced, and fascinating. His methods were unbeatable. He would take us to a location, show us the scene from Outlander, recite dialog from the scene and suggest pictures for the memories. I honestly believe that without Gerald, this would have been just another tour. He made it special. I wish it could have been longer, but we were under time restraints.

Andrea, our tour guide, took our group of four to so many wonderful Outlander filming sites and she even recreated the scenes in a way that brought our tour to life. We consider ourselves huge fans of the series and we could picture the scenes as she described in the place where they were actually filmed, so awesome. Her knowledge of Scotland, Outlander, other historical events and service she provided were excellent. I would highly recommend this tour and Andrea Andy.

What a fabulous tour with Tony! From the minute he picked us up dressed in his kilt we were in for a great adventure. Not only is Tony funny but he could actually recite lines from Outlander at all of the stops we made to bring the scene to mind and life for those of us a wee rusty on our Outlander story. He knew how to cram as much into one day by days end we felt like we were in the set and while we couldn't go to Ft William because they were actually filming there for Season 4 there was plenty to do and see. This is perfect trip for anyone who wants to journey back in time through the Outlander series. Tony has a great sense of humor and we laughed from start to finish and it made for a special day indeed! If you have any reservations about giving yourself over to this marvelous romp in the 1700s - get over it. This is near perfect.
