What You Can Expect

Machu Picchu Day Trip from Cusco

Machu Picchu Day Trip from Cusco

Depart from Cusco in the morning, with pickup from your hotel and a transfer from the city center to your train station. Your departure location and travel experience will depend on the seating option you’ve selected (see the Itinerary below). Then enjoy a scenic train ride, offering stunning views of the mountainous terrain that makes up the area near Machu Picchu.

Arrive in Aguas Calientes, the small village located at the base of this famous Inca site, and board a bus for the short ride to this sacred citadel. Completed around 1450, when the Inca Empire was at the peak of its power and influence, the site was left vacant within 100 years of its creation, thanks to the conquest of the Inca people by the Spanish. Though the site today remains abandoned, many believe Machu Picchu to be a key center of spiritual energy.

Follow your guide through the main streets of this marvel of ancient engineering. Learn about the site’s history and design as you meander through its town square, key religious sites, elaborate network of agricultural terraces and intricately-designed stone staircases. After completing your guided tour, you’ll have time to explore on your own, taking some time for photos and to absorb the mystic energy of this one-of-a-kind site.

After spending a few hours at the site, you’ll return by bus to the train station in Aguas Calientes and then to your chosen train for the trip back to Cusco.

IMPORTANT: Your passport details are needed for the Machu Picchu Day Trip (Full name and Passport ID). Please provide your passport details in the additional request box, otherwise the tour will not be confirmed.

Great experience, The tour guide was the best He was very understanding and advised us about the high altitude and reminded us to listen to our body not to force it to continue if we were having issues with the altitude. I do recommend the trip.

The site was amazing as we expected. I initially started to plan the logistics for our trip. I’m so glad I went with the tour. There are a lot of moving parts and this allowed me to just relax and enjoy the day trip. Our guide was amazing. The passion he has for his history and culture was evident. Our nine-year-old daughter was with us in addition to a few elderly. The breaks were perfectly planned to allow time to regroup between climbing. Highly recommend!!!

So, I took this trip FOR MY BIRTHDAY and it was lovely.

I got to the Viajes Pacifico office at 3:30 a.m. ouch and from there we just the driver and myself took a winding road up to Ollantaytambo. I literally thought I was going to meet my Maker that entire ride up there...but hey, Peru drivers!

Once I arrived there, two representatives took me to the train station and then it was off to Machu Picchu! The train ride was fine. Noisy since there were a bunch of kids, but other than that the Expedition train was rather uneventful, but it had beautiful views!

I arrived at the MP train station and then we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. Once everyone was together, we boarded a bus to MP. I was even able to get my passport stamped with the MP stamp!

Our tour guide Hector was amazing! He was so informative and went above and beyond to be your personal photographer. The group even sang happy birthday to me. We saw llamas up close and personal and even got to touch them as they walked around. Being in MP was incredible. Hector was with us every step of the way and it felt like we were up there for HOURS.

The line back to the bus took an hour, but once on the bus, I got to sit next to the driver and head back down to the MP train station. We had lunch which we had to pay for at a restaurant in Aguas Calientes and then Hector departed from us. The lunch was fine and filling. The train ride back to Cusco was fine despite some delays.

This trip was great and I highly recommend it to anyone else.

The tour was wonderful! Great value for all the we got. Very organized, small group tour of Machu Picchu (8 people). The guide was wonderful, funny, and knew all the history. She gave us plenty of time to take pictures and offered many times to take great pictures for us. We choose the 360 train option, it was comfy and offered great views. Small meals/snacks were provided along with hot beverages. Would reccomens to my friends!

Machu Picchu is just beautiful, the tour guide was very knowledge and everything was well organized.

I would recommend people to stay overnight in Machu Picchu area as the transportation from Cusco will take about 9-10 hours, leaving you 2-3 hours to visit Machu Picchu.

Reasonable pricing considering all that is included. The Vistadome train was amazing, our tour guide Hector was the absolute best, and overall was a very safe, reliable and wonderful way to see Machupicchu in a day.

This was a great trip, very well organized. The tour guider was very nice, friendly and knowledge. He gave us an excellent introduction about the history of Machu Picchu at the top of the mountain, and answered all our questions. It was just like I was in a field trip to Machu Picchu, listening to a professor's interesting lecture. I highly recommend the tour.

Extremely organized. Since I was traveling alone, I was concerned initially as I had not received an email with the time for pick up at the hotel, but as I arrived late on Friday night in Cusco, they had a note for me with the receptionist at hotel with the details for the next morning. In every stop there was someone waiting for our group. We had plenty of time to walk around monuments and the Aguas Calientes afterwards. I would strongly recommend this tour if your time is limited like mine was...
