The region of Villány enjoys a sub-Mediterranean climate that assists in producing its full-bodied red wines. The success of the region revolves around 11 winemaking villages best-known for their reds developed from cabernet franc grapes.
Your full-day tour will begin with pickup from your Budapest hotel, where your guide will provide transportation to Hungary’s southernmost wine region.
You’ll stop at three wineries over the course of day, admiring the idyllic landscape and rows of wine cellars as you travel. Your host will provide five to eight wines to sip at each winery, including cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and portugieser reds, and whites such as olaszrizling and chardonnay. You’ll also take a vineyard tour for a closer look into the area’s grape production.
In the afternoon, enjoy a hearty 3-course lunch at a traditional Hungarian restaurant, including classic dishes such as broths, stews and roasts followed by strudel desserts.
At the final winery, pair your tastings with local cured meat and artisan cheese to enhance the notes of the wines you're sipping. Your tour will conclude with a drive back to Budapest, where your guide will drop you at your hotel.
