West Sichuan is a Tibetan Area, which is high above sea level. Here is famous for its snow mountains, vast grassland, yaks and Tibetan Buddhism. The place where we are going to belongs to Jiarong Tibetans, whose ancestors came from Tibet, and fought against Tang Dynasty (7th-10th A. D). After the war, they settled up in this region, lived with local Han Chinese and Qiang People. Gradually, they gave up husbandry, but learnt the agriculture skills from the Chinese people. It is interesting to pay a short visit to their villages, and amdire their traditional architectures and beautiful costumes. If we are lucky, we will have the chance of seeing their festivals.
The winter is dry, and no snow. If you want to see the snow, please come here from Feb to Mar. May is a season for blossoms, while late Oct for autumn colour.
Don't worry about the accommodations. There are many hotels arranging from Tibetan home stay lodgings to five star hotspring resorts in Gu'ergou Town.
