Although the original Table Rock -- a jutting out of rock from the Falls used as a viewing platform in the 19th century -- was destroyed in 1935 after a series of dangerous rock falls, today it is a retail and entertainment complex. Considered a must-visit when at Niagara Falls, Table Rock’s viewing area is home to terraced platforms perfect for picture taking, especially as rainbows are a common sighting. It’s located right at the Falls in the heart of Niagara Parks, so you’re guaranteed to enjoy beautiful scenery near all the attractions.
Begin your Table Rock experience at the Welcome Centre, where you can purchase tickets, packages and passes depending on what you want to do. Here you’ll also be able to get some background information on the area. One attraction at Table Rock is Niagara’s Fury, a 4D experience that will make you feel like you’re really witnessing the creation of the falls through advanced technology. Then there’s the Journey Behind the Falls -- open year-round -- where you’ll go 150 feet (46 meters) underground to make your way through tunnels behind Niagara Falls. At the base of the falls you’ll find a viewing platform for an interesting perspective of the natural wonder. The experience takes you so close to the falls you’ll get wet, which is why you’ll be provided a poncho.
For a unique dining experience, Elements on the Falls Restaurant is the closest venue to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. In a sophisticated dining room patrons can savor meats grilled to perfect and farm-to-fork dishes while enjoying views of the falls through their floor-to-ceiling windows. A number of fast food options are also available at Table Rock. Afterward, grab a sweet treat from Pop & Lolly’s Candy Shop like chocolate-dipped fruit or custom-made hard candy.
If you’re looking to buy some souvenirs, the Canadian Treasures Gift Shop at Table Rock is the place to do it, as the store sells local artwork, Canadian jewelry, Roots-brand clothing and accessories, Native collectibles and more.
While the viewing platforms are open 24/7, 365 days of the year, the best time to visit is during the summer when the weather is beautiful, everything is open and the falls are at their strongest. Ticket prices vary depending on what you want to do and what package you purchase. That being said, Niagara’s Fury is generally $13.50 for adults 13 and older, $8.80 for children 6 to 13 and free for children under 6. Journey Behind the Falls is $15.95 for adults 13 and over, $10.95 for children 6 to 12 and free for children under 6.
