David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Tours

Kenya is a nation dedicated to conservation and this elephant and rhino rescue just outside the city is a pioneer for protection and rehabilitation. Expert team leaders retrieve orphan animals from the wild and rehabilitate them to return to their natural environment. Keepers bottle-feed babies every three hours, 24-hours a day, and often sleep with elephants until they can be returned to the wild. While visitors are not allowed to feed the animals, the trust offers a rare opportunity to see the offspring of Africa’s largest mammals up close.

Practical Info:

Visitors who want to see the orphan elephants must be present between 11 a.m. and noon, since the orphanage is only open for an hour each day. Arrive early since the Trust gets busy during nursery viewings. Those who opt to sponsor an orphan elephant for $50 can arrange a private viewing outside the 11 a.m. to noon window.
